The Syrian Ministry of Culture Mourns Poet and Painter Fatima Al-Suwadi

The Syrian Ministry of Culture mourns the Syrian poet and painter Fatima Al-Suwadi, who passed away in Istanbul after a battle with a terminal illness.

Al-Suwadi was a writer, poet and painter born in Idlib Governorate in 1976. She moved to Türkiye to receive treatment for cancer.

She participated in several cultural events in Istanbul, including the latest edition of the Arab Book Fair and the Arab Poetry Festival. Before her passing, she had begun preparing her poetry collection, Nothing Resembles My Heart, for publication. However, her condition worsened, and she passed away on Saturday.

Al-Suwadi was among the Syrian poets who stood in support of the Syrian people's blessed revolution. She remained steadfast in her patriotic convictions throughout her literary career until her passing, leaving behind a rich body of work cherished by her readers and a lasting impact on the Syrian cultural scene.

In tribute to her legacy, Minister of Culture Mohammed Yassin Al-Saleh has directed the General Book Authority to publish Fatima Al-Suwadi's poetic works, accompanied by her paintings and calligraphic works, in order to preserve the memory of the revolution and its writers and to honour the literature and creativity of Syrian women.

As the Ministry extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, admirers and friends, it prays that God will envelop the deceased in His infinite mercy and grant her loved ones patience and solace.
