Palmyra Airport… Towards New Horizons for Cultural Tourism
The Minister of Culture, Mohammed Yassin Al-Saleh; the Minister of Tourism, Mazen Al-Salehani; the Governor of Homs, Marhaf Al-Naasan; and the Head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport, Omar Al-Husari, conducted a field visit to Palmyra Airport to assess its current condition and discuss the requirements for converting it from a military airport into a civilian airport that would strengthen Palmyra’s presence on the global cultural tourism map.
Following Palmyra’s presence at the Venice Biennale through a model of the Palmyra Tower, the airport project aims to open the city’s doors to visitors from around the world, allowing them to discover its ancient heritage and experience firsthand the architectural beauty and authentic Syrian spirit embodied in its columns, structures, and arches.
