The new issue of "Al-Sham Magazine" has been released, featuring dossiers, articles, and interviews addressing culture, memory, and transitional justice.
In its "Issues and Perspectives" section, the magazine examines "The Role of Culture in the Transitional Justice Process" through a range of approaches exploring the role of literature, art, theatre, cinema, documentation, and local memory in uncovering the truth, documenting testimonies, confronting denial and oblivion, and rebuilding trust within society.
Contributors to this section include Dr Mohammad Khair Mousa, Fadel Abdul Ghany, Lubaba Al-Hawari, Wissam Shahla, Asaad Farzat, Jaber Bakr, Fares Al-Dhahabi, Abdulrahman Al-Kilani, and Yasmine Marei.
The issue’s main dossier, titled "Introducing Syrians to One Another", seeks to rebuild mutual understanding among Syrians, reconnect communities inside Syria with those in the diaspora, and highlight the diversity of Syrian environments, memories, and narratives.
Contributors to the dossier include Dr Ahmad Barqawi, Dr Kinda Hawasli, Dr Abdulbaset Sieda, Dr Nawar Najma, Batoul Hdaifeh, and Marهam Hajeer.
In the "Guest of Al-Sham" section, Mr Mubarak Al Khalifa, Editor-in-Chief of "Doha Magazine", is featured as the issue’s guest. Meanwhile, the "Syrian Figures" section presents an interview with Dr Mohammad Bahjat Qubaisi, a researcher and professor of ancient languages and ancient history, exploring his life, career, and intellectual and scholarly project.
Published as a double issue, the magazine also includes articles on theatre, cinema, visual arts, and the memory of the Syrian revolution, alongside its diverse cultural sections.
