The Ministry of Culture and UNESCO discuss strengthening cooperation in rehabilitating archaeological sites and preparing for the cultural conference
The Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr. Saad Naasan, received the Director of the Regional Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Syria and Lebanon, Mr. Paolo Fontaine, in the presence of a number of officials from the Ministry and the organization, where the two sides discussed strengthening joint cooperation in the areas of rehabilitation of archaeological sites and museums, training local cadres and integrating them into the labor market, to In addition to discussing preliminary arrangements for holding a cultural conference concerned with the recovery of heritage and the revival of Syrian culture.
Mr. Paolo Fontaine stressed UNESCO’s keenness to expand direct cooperation with Syria in the fields of culture, education and heritage preservation, noting the organization’s interest in projects to rehabilitate the Aleppo Citadel and the National Museum in Aleppo, in addition to training national cadres and creating job opportunities. He stressed the importance of benefiting from available artistic expertise and concerted efforts to begin the executive steps to establish a comprehensive cultural conference aimed at reviving culture. Syria.
For his part, Mr. Saad Naasan welcomed the UNESCO delegation, stressing the readiness of the Ministry of Culture to enhance cooperation with the organization, and its welcome of projects to rehabilitate heritage and train national cadres, indicating that the Ministry is working to prepare a comprehensive vision for the upcoming cultural conference.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue coordination, and to hold a preparatory meeting soon to complete the technical and organizational aspects of the conference in coordination with the relevant authorities.
