Serjila.. a legacy that embodies the antiquity of Syrian civilization
Serjila is one of the most prominent archaeological sites in northwestern Syria. It is located in the Jabal al-Zawiya area in Idlib Governorate, and it is one of the archaeological villages included in the site of the ancient villages in northern Syria on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The city flourished during the fifth and sixth centuries AD, and its residents relied on agriculture in addition to commercial activity, which It was reflected in its urban prosperity.
Serjila is distinguished by its preservation of an integrated group of stone buildings, churches, baths, and contemporary houses, presenting an exceptional model that documents the details of daily life in the Syrian countryside during ancient times. Within the framework of the project to protect and preserve archaeological sites, work began to document the site, monitor the damage, and identify the necessary needs in preparation for restoration work and preservation of this cultural heritage.
